People, national ID numbers, phone numbers, email, addresses, bank details (account numbers, IBAN, giro numbers, card numbers) and amounts are masked by default. Organisations and property designations are usually suggested rather than masked automatically, so you decide. Which rule file you use controls exactly what happens to each type — see the rule files question below.

Places, dates and postal codes aren't masked by default, since they're rarely sensitive on their own. Masking is text recognition, not magic — unusual name forms, nicknames or oddly formatted data can be missed. Always review the result before you send or copy it.

Select the text in the review screen and choose "Mask as…", then pick the type. The same value is then masked consistently throughout the document.

Tap a masked chip to see the original value and choose "Unmask" if you'd rather it stayed in plain text.

In manual mode (the default) you copy the masked text yourself and paste it into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or any chat you like — nothing leaves the device until you copy or send it. In direct mode, which you turn on yourself with your own API key, the app sends the text for you straight to the provider you chose, and restores the answer automatically.

On iPhone 15 Pro and later, and on Apple silicon Macs, Apple Intelligence is used as an extra layer for better name detection. On older devices (for example an Intel-based Mac) only the base engine is used — it misses more names, so review the text extra carefully there.

A rule file controls which types of data are masked automatically, suggested or allowed for a given field — for example Real Estate, Accounting, Legal, Health or HR. You pick a rule file in the review screen. Your own or shared rule files (file extension .sendmaskedrules) are imported and exported via the share sheet or AirDrop, and managed under Settings › Rules.

Strict mode is on by default and makes anything that would otherwise only be suggested get masked automatically instead, so nothing sensitive leaves the device just because you didn't review a suggestion. You'll find the setting, and can turn it off, under Settings › Recognition.

Try it in airplane mode: in manual mode, masking, review and copying all work exactly as usual, because the app doesn't need a network connection unless you choose to send in direct mode.

The free version gives you 10 maskings per month. Pro (99 SEK/mo or 790 SEK/yr) gives unlimited maskings. The subscription is handled by Apple — under Settings › Subscription there's a "Restore Purchases" option if you've switched devices or reinstalled the app.
